What Is A Dental Hygienist

Registered Dental Hygienists (RDHs) are licensed dental health providers who perform preventative services such as dental cleanings, periodontal soft tissue therapy, and practice independently of the dentist rather than alongside of them. Hygienists are also responsible for conducting oral cancer screenings, gum disease screenings, nutritional counseling, medical reviews, taking radiographs, administering local anesthetic (in most states) and monitoring nitrous oxide sedation. They may also take impressions for teeth whitening trays, apply fluoride treatments, and perform other adjunctive services depending on the state they are licensed in
